Muting Participants

Updated on May 6, 2026

Moderators can specifically mute participants in the webinar room. This allows for better control of communication during a webinar, for example, in case of background noise or larger groups of participants.

Various options are available here.

  • Mute all participants (Hard Mute)
  • Mute all participants (Soft Mute)
  • Mute individual participants

Using the "Participants" button in the top right of the webinar room, moderators can access central settings for participant communication.

There, all enabled participants can be muted simultaneously. This is referred to as a "soft mute." This means participants are muted but can reactivate their microphone themselves, provided they are generally enabled for audio.

This function is helpful if there are temporary background noises in the webinar or if a larger group of participants needs to be brought back into order, without permanently restricting active participation.

The so-called "hard mute" works differently. If the moderator mutes participants using the hard mute, participants cannot then reactivate their microphone independently.

Additionally, individual participants can be permanently muted. This is also referred to as a "hard mute."

Here too, this means that the affected participant cannot reactivate their microphone independently. Only when the moderator unmutes them can the participant use their microphone again.

This function is useful, for example, if a participant is causing disruptive noise or if the moderation situation needs to be kept stable.

Alternatively, participants can still be set to passive by revoking their "Active Participant" status. This allows moderators to specifically limit the participation options of individual attendees.
